Join AFSA and other producers online on Wed 2 June at 6:30pm to talk about the work that is happening to build independent, local- and grower-owned, small-scale abattoirs in Australia.

We know that alternatives to centralised, industrial-scale abattoirs are critical to the future of ethical meat – for animal welfare, for farmer control of their supply chains, and for strong local food economies. We know that producers are building  these alternatives, while many more are seeking these better models and/or looking to start their own.

This Solidarity Session will gather a roundtable of ethical meat producers to discuss experiences, challenges, solutions, and ideas for next steps, and we’d love for you to join us.

The session will provide a practical dive into the opportunities, issues, and approaches for building a better system for ethical meat production in local food economies.

The session will be facilitated by ethical meatsmith and AFSA President, Tammi Jonas, and AFSA farmer Dan Cordner who operates an on-farm abattoir for pasture-raised chickens in North Queensland. We’ll discuss the experiences of those who have built or are currently working with small-scale abattoir systems, and discuss the needs and questions of producers looking for better solutions.
