Our work includes practical support, educational and networking opportunities and representation across farming, research, legal reform and legal support. Our aim is to ensure food and agricultural systems, both within Australia and internationally, are democratically determined by farmers and eaters and move away from the current corporate, industrialised food system.
Why is AFSA’s work important?
Our work is important for the food system to change for the better, for the people, the animals and the planet.
We equip farmers with access to the knowledge and resources they need to feed communities with real food and heal Country, while connecting eaters to knowledge, farmers and other actors in localised food and agriculture systems.
We represent an improved, equitable food system to governments at all levels, and strive to remove the barriers for moving away from the corporate-controlled, exploitative capitalist food system.
We promote relationships with land, water and sky, and strive to care for Country and promote First Peoples’ sovereignty in everything we do. We work to honour culture and conviviality, and to protect and restore food literacy and traditional, non-industrial ways of growing, preparing, sharing and eating food as a community.
Why being an AFSA member is important!
AFSA is a membership-based organisation that runs on the whiff of an oily rag by a community of passionate volunteers and one part time paid member of staff. We need YOUR support to continue doing the work that we do.
Your membership contributions provide the much needed funds for the critical campaigns we run, and equally importantly, your membership adds to our collective strength – the more people we represent, the harder we are to ignore.
We have three membership categories: First Peoples, Farmers and Allies, because anyone in the food movement who is not a farmer, is an ally! The Ally membership is for both individuals and organisations.
Membership is offered on a sliding scale so you can choose a membership contribution appropriate to your personal situation. First Peoples are free (whether you are a Farmer or an Ally). Farmers and Allies can select an annual contribution from $75 – $500.
