Attention all Food Sovereignty allies,

We are sharing this on behalf of the Taneeb family of Hakoritna Farm in an urgent appeal for solidarity and support as they attempt to save their farm in Tulkarm, occupied West Bank from ordered destruction by Israeli forces.

We have less than one week left to try and prevent the destruction of this long standing institution of agriculture, knowledge-sharing and resilience.

Hakoritna is more than just a farm – it is a beacon of hope, culture and connection to land and its targeted erasure is a direct attack on Palestinian Food Sovereignty amidst a policy of starvation.

Please see the following document for the:

  • Press Release on this urgent matter (note: updated court appeal Wed 3rd Sept, not 27 Aug)
  • a statement and history from the Taneeb family of Hakoritna Farm
  • the invitation to attend an in-person diplomatic solidarity visit on Wed 20 Aug, on behalf of Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center (JLAC).

Please read the full press release attached to understand the agricultural, environmental, and cultural significance of this unique site.

But here’s a summary of Hakoritna’s contributions towards agroecology as well as the threats it is currently facing from Stop-Work and Destruction Orders issued by the Israeli Civil Administration.

Hakoritna Farm has been owned and managed by the Taneeb family for three generations. Established in 1953, it combines traditional Palestinian farming methods with modern, climate-resilient techniques.

The farm spans 26 dunums, including 8 dunums of greenhouses, over 750 fruit-bearing trees (avocado, mango, custard apple, guava, fig, grape, and olive), and valuable trees that are centuries old. It also incorporates integrated beekeeping, fish farming, and diverse open-field crops.

Pioneering in the use of renewable-energy-based agricultural systems, Hakoritna employs biogas production from organic waste, solar drying for produce preservation, and water recycling systems to optimize scarce resources.

Operating entirely chemical-free, the farm serves as a vital environmental buffer in an area surrounded by polluting factories constructed on confiscated Palestinian land.

Beyond its agricultural output, Hakoritna Farm is a hub for knowledge-sharing and community empowerment — training hundreds of students and farmers in sustainable practices, hosting international delegations, and sharing low-cost, resource-efficient farming techniques.

In 1996, it was recognized by the Arab League for its contribution to regional food security. It is also a model of gender equality in rural life, with women playing a central role in its management and daily operations.

Hakoritna Farm’s ordered destruction aims to erase decades of agroecological farming systems, knowledge and culture.

Intentions to destroy it, reveals intentions to destroy Palestinian Food Sovereignty and sever the generational ties between farmers and their connection to their land.

The historical and deliberate targeting of Palestinian farms is a strategic attack on the very foundations of Palestinian resilience by attacking their right to food throughout an ongoing occupation amidst policies of genocide, ecocide and starvation.

So it is more important than ever to protect Palestinian Food Sovereignty and stand with Hakoritna Farm!

Please share, support and uplift their farm in any way you are able.

With steadfast hope and solidarity,

Keitha Thuy Young, AFSA
